End of Summer 2009

A quick review of our summer in pictures:
Emma, Ryan, and Jaden run the mile at Duck Island.

It is off to Holiday World:

Here we meet Santa with cousin Morgan on a cold and rainy day!

Mamaw and Papaw join us for two days of fun,

and Grandma Raeburn and Papa come too!

Then, it is off to the farm:

for a visit with Denise,

and some fishing!

Then, Emma and Ryan went to Indiana for a week with Mamaw and Papaw. They did all kinds of fun things like visit the zoo, two different children's museums, and visit with cousins.

The Trues headed south for a Fourth of July trip with the Nash Family. Andy and Annette ran the Peachtree on the morning of the Fourth. That night, some friends come over for supper made by the Nashes (delicious) and some fireworks.

When they returned the kids spent a little time at VBS (the third of the summer).

The next week it was Funfest. First was Crazy 8's. Emma and Ryan ran the Crazy Mile. Ryan set a state record for his age. He ran a 9:33. Emma finished strong, and they both had a great time! They both can outrun Annette! They also ran the Little 8's before Andy and Annette ran the Crazy 8's. They both paced the race and were fairly successful. Emma and Ryan stayed up to cheer them on! Everyone had a great time!

After Funfest, Emma, Ryan, and Annette headed back to Atlanta for one last summer get-away! The kids got to visit with their cousins and do all kinds of fun stuff! They saw G-Force, panned for gold and gems at a real gold mine, bowled, and swam.

The lifesaving crew - Emma, Jackson (cousin), and Ryan!

And that brings us to the end of summer!

The First Annual True Family Egg Drop

Based on Emma's idea, March 6th was the date of the first annual True Family Egg Drop. The objective was to find a way to drop an egg out of Ryan's 2nd story bedroom window without having it break.

Joining us for the evening was Emma's best friend Jaden.

As the only entrant in the Pre-school division, Ryan was the first person to drop. His idea was to cushion his egg with multiple layers of Kleenex.

Jaden chose to wrap her egg with multiple layers of socks.

Emma placed her egg in a plastic cup, buffered with MANY small marshmallows.

Great fun was had by all, as the drop took place.

Ryan finished first in the pre-school division, even though his egg broke.

Emma and Jaden tied in the Kindergarten division, with both of their eggs surviving.

Great fun was had by all!

Mamaw and Papaw Come to Tennessee

It was a quick trip, but it's always a fun time when Mamaw and Papaw come to visit from Indiana. After some dinner at Salsarita's, there was time for books with Mamaw before bedtime. It won't be long before Mamaw comes back for Emma's program at school!

Dancing the Night Away... or... Daddy's Little Girl is Growing Up!

There's no better way to describe Friday evening than as a vivid snapshot of extreme happiness. Emma and I attended our first Girl Scout Daddy/Daughter Formal, held at Rascals Teen Center. Though I was admittedly skeptical (let's just say I'm not a huge fan of the teen center concept... they'll grow up fast enough), it was big fun to see Emma so happy.

After making sure we were happy with our attire, the two of us went out for an intimate dinner for two at Chick-fil-A. Then, it was on to Rascals for two hours of dancing, cake, pictures, and friends. Emma was excited to be with her friends, and I think she even enjoyed hanging out with her daddy. I'm not sure who was happier.
Who knows how much longer I will still be her hero. At least for this night, I was still the daddy she loves to laugh and dance with, and that's good enough for me.
